| Yes, and destroying the cult managed to bring the peace at the same time, didn't it? The Dominion was destroyed, pacifying the Ashenborn Empire at the same time (not much reason for existence). Santara got conquered by Mettenheim. Melitine has been mentioned to be a peaceful trading partner before Brencis' little joyride. I'm not sure what became of Nohseru, but they'd have more problems with the aforementioned Melitine due to their geographical locations.
Pendor is anything but easy to rule. Even during peace it is rife with strife of its own. Then there is the constant cultural differences between the provinces that bubble forth quite often (D'Shar and Ravenstern mostly). The realm is also very large. Then we have the protectorate of Ashenborn for the Crown Prince. It is relatively homogenous due to Melitine, Nohseru and Santara being separate from it, and is also smaller in terms of area. Then, as mentioned, it is a protectorate which implies it has its own government but answers to Pendor. This would make ruling it a lot easier than Pendor (or most other kingdoms for that matter). Also, we have advisors around for a reason, and the people of Ashenborn might feel like they owe something back to Pendor for banishing the evil cult.

- In the aftermath (of Brencis) Pendor was left wounded and with a fallen king, but Amala was left in utter chaos. A great many of our protectorates attempted to remain independent, and some have succeeded. The Melitine Empire, always a precarious yet peaceful neighbor, chose to take new lands. The once-called Ashenborn Empire agreed to return as a protectorate of Pendor, but this too has been contentious. The Radiant Cross lost ground to the resurgent Snake Cult for the first time in memory
This was approx 20 years before the events at Windholm. During those events Pendor has, if I recall correctly, a weak King who was preceded by Mordred the Sheep. Leaving no strong competent ruler since Gundar Thunderfeller and the chance of Pendor retaking the former control of Amala that fast and in a superior fashion has been very small. I'd say Amala is shaky and has (also with the Shadow Legion exiles) enough cultures to ruin the harmony than Pendor. Taken into account Pendor's stability and shared losses by Brencis which strengthen bonds. But I'm not here to object to the lore of our loremasters..but a bit more information about the internal struggles would be most welcome.

| After the Prince of PoP4, Amala is pretty stable until Brencis rises up and throws off the whole thing. The Amala of PoP4 / our map is not the whole of the continent... it's a very large one. Pendor is the hegemon in the lands of the old Baccus Empire. It has vassals, protectorates, peaceful trading partners... but no real enemies on Amala until Brencis leads his rebellion.
The Snake Cult still exists, but isn't considered a threat to Pendor. They still have lands but the Radiant Cross faces them. Think in GoT terms as if the Night's Watch has a string of forts but no wall.
When Brencis rose up, he left Amala in ashes politically so that he could invade Pendor. He was killed by the warrior king, Gundar Thunderfeller, who also died. The next King of Pendor is Mordred the Mad, but his only real rebellion is the Lion-Griffon War... it isn't so much a war for land as it is ideology. The current King gets tired of fighting it, more or less enforces a peace but makes the concession of giving the Lords true claim to their lands rather than as care-takers in the King's name. A true feudal society again. His son, the Crown Prince, goes to Amala to oversee the real healing of that land... Pendor was still the mightiest power before he sailed over, but it wasn't enforcing a Pax Pendoria. Now it is back to that stage, kinda. Largely due to the Prince wisely ruling.

| Then I must ask how old the Crown Prince is and how long he has been regent in Amala. | |

| The current King is in his 50s, the Prince has been in Amala for almost a decade. Also... the current King is perceived as weak because he made peace and doesn't like to be in the public eye. Think of him as a Franz Josef post-Austro-Prussian War. Is he a weak king? Perhaps, but not as weak as some would like to hope. | |

| I'd like to register that, even though I'm an avid Asimov reader, I'm amazed at how things are turning out.
A few months ago the UN published a report on autonomous attack robots - they exist, by the way. I've heard about recycling bins in London that track nearby smartphones. Some group in Brazil is planing to build a factory to create engineered mosquitoes in order to reduce transmission of tropical diseases. Stanford people have managed to create a rewritable biological storage, eh, thing, with DNA. And there is that dude who installed a wireless device in his and his wife's spine.
I like this world. | |

| I"m not a fan of being tracked by garbage bins, thanks.
Becoming a cyborg on the other hand is something of a personal dream/childhood fantasy. Give me the ability to surf the internet inside my head!

| No problem, IC-Slums hasn't grown much so you probably won't have problems there.
I also recommend reading IC-Duke's Wharf, if only for the entertainment value.

Not quite. He was hoping to burn the Duchess. He'll just have to settle for Windholm.

| I'm working on ideas for frontiermen. How do you non-South-American people picture a) Spanish conquistators and b) Brazilian Bandeirantes? And how do you non-Americans picture the settler-cowboys during the westward expansion of the US? I mostly want to know the stereotypes associated with these people.
Bandeirantes were rangers-explorers of mixed European and Native American blood. Less militaristic than consquistadors, and more rangers and hunters than fighters. But if I have to explain this I guess you should just skip (b).
