Northern Middle Entrance of Torbah

Methodius walked on the outer planes of what was once torbah, passing into what looked like the middle northern entrance. The gauntlets heavy armor was hard to drag in the dessert and the scorching sun turned their armor in moving ovens. However, the knights tolerated it to the best of their abilities, as it was their pride and motto to endure the worst the world could bring them and remain standing.

Someway through the journey Methodius noticed a party of knights forking into the same road his party was on. He recognized these men to be Knights of the dragon, he stopped his men and hailed to the dragons.

"Greetings, I am sir methodius marci of the Ebony Gauntlets, it seems we are both headed the same direction"

Belia was amongst the Knight's of Ebony Gauntlet, she was dressed in robe fitting to hide in desert, yet with few details that made her look more like average traveler. From now one she would leave clues to Rivatha, they way Rivatha taught her using her newly found desert knowledge.

OOC: Belia is largely under control of Methodius now, just noting few details that could be important.

"And I am Thane William Alatin, Dragons, it appears so, would you mind if we travel along side one another for the time being?"

William smiled weakly and extended his hand.

Methodius nodded
"I see no harm in having company on the road"
right as he extended his arm a party of 12 to 16 raiders appeared over a dune next to them and started charging them
Methodius quickly snapped in combat mode
"To arms! 4 gauntlets form a shield wall at the front with me! hammers stand behind us and get ready to get messy, the rest of you grab your crossbows and fire at will!"

"Sigwald you and angus take some of the men and circle on the left flank, I will take the right, Sir Methodius you and your men hold the middle. If you can, lets try and keep from spilling and blood, Hiya!"

With that William spurred his Destrier onto the right flank with four of his men, the rest and Angus took the left.

Methodius did not like the idea of taking the high road when a dozen of men were charging at him, he was a warrior, not a politician, but he complied for now and shouted
"Only If they seem willing to stop their attack, but if it's blood they want, blood is what we will give them!"

He then turned back to his gauntlets with their crossbows
"Crossbowmen! change of orders! hold your fire until we're sure they mean harm, fire a volley at them before they make contact with us or if they make any kind of attack maneuvers!"

Sigwald nodded to the Thane and turned to the rangers,

"Join their crossbowmen and fire when they do."

Then he followed William's brother, the knight Angus, to the left flank with some of the other knights.

As the two groups settled into their formation, a horn sounded from not too far off. Several looked about, but it was one of Sigwald's rangers who spotted the danger first. Shouting "Above!" the formation barely had time to cover itself as arrows rained down from above. The volley was ineffective, but it did enough as the knights were unsure of what direction to face. At once, horsemen appeared from hills and depressions all around the formation, arrows flying at unprotected flanks and unprepared soldiers. Several more charged straight in, their small lances couched.

Bolts and arrows flew out of the formation, but without the characteristic terror that would have accompanied a steady volley. Several of the horsemen fell, but the ambush threatened to break up the formation of the knights.

Reform on the Gauntlet!

William shouted across to Angus and Sigwald, and the dragons began to pull back to protect the Gauntlet formation.

Shields out! Prepare to engage the Lancers!

This order was directed at his detachment of men. The tight Dragon formations wheeled about, although some struggled to maintain control of their horses in the loose sand.

"dammit!"
Methodius thought to himself, flank attacks were deadly in his current formation, he needed to do something fast to mitigate the damage.
"Crossbowmen! 5 of you pick up your swords and shields as fast as you can! a melee is about to start! I want 3 gauntlets and 2 hammers on one flank and 3 hammers and 2 gauntlets on the other!"
Methodius himself broke off from the front to stand at the flank that was going to be the first to get hit, leaving a 4 man shield wall at the front

Sigwald's rangers were experienced enough to survive, at least, that's what Sigwald hoped since he had no idea what was best in their situation. He was right, the rangers joined the tight formation of the Gauntlets and switched their longbows for sword and shield.

Sigwald himself followed Alatin's order, and while his destrier struggled its way through the hot sand he only barely caught an arrow with his shield.

Armor clattered loudly as the Gauntlets and Dragons shifted as fast as they could to react to the ambush. Crossbows were reloaded and formations solidified as the seconds thundered away with the beating of hooves. Alatin's dragons couldn't react quickly enough to stop the lancer attacks, however. Weapons clashed against shields and armor and men dove out of the way as the D'Shar horsemen crashed into the formation of heavy foot knights. Chaos engulfed the line as men swung and stabbed at whatever was in reach.

One horse, it's rider lost and its exposed flank bleeding from a sword strike, managed to deliver a kick to Methodius, sending him sprawling. Several crossbow bolts flew out of the dust cloud in random directions, one nearly hitting Alatin. From the flanks, more horsemen decided to eschew their bows, charging in with their swords and spears.

Although one side was clearly better equipped than the other, in the chaos, it was impossible to tell who had the upper hand.

William just able to make out the downed gauntlet, jumped off his horse, shield up wary of the panicking crossbowmen.
"Sir Methodius!"
William pulled the knight up to a sitting position
"Are you alright?"

Meanwhile Angus let out a war cry to rally the dragons in a counter charge against the on coming bow less raiders.

Methodius picked himself up with the help of the dragon
"I'm fine friend, i'm built to endure, though that would of been different if it was a warhorse"

He then turned back to the battle with sword and shield in hand
"I'd like to thank you for your concern but we have a fight to win first!"

He pointed at the 5 remaining men with crossbows
"Crossbowmen! fire at the charging archers!"

Methodius then rejoined the brawl and slashed at the closest enemy

William, deprived of his horse, pushed his way to the front keeping his back to the gauntlet formation, fighting hard with all his might, chaos ensuing around him.

The knights of the Dragon, seeing the state of the Gauntlet formation, charged straight for the encroaching horsemen. The bravery of the D'Shar was no match for the steel and stubborness of the knights and the reinforcing charge broke up almost as soon as it began, only a handful of survivors galloping away from the Dragons. Those men not entangled in the melee began to flee themselves, apparently thinking better of engaging the heavy knight formations.

Within moment, what had been a chaotic mess was quiet once more. Or as quiet as the screams of wounded and dying men could be.

As Sigwald watched the D'Shar horsehumpers flee in fear. Blood covered the sharp side of his axe and for a moment he forgot all about the heat that roasted him alive.
Close to him, the ranger Vanndal had just unleashed an arrow into a leg of one fleeing horsehumper and he seemed content with his markmanship.

"hah, we're stayin' alive"

William spat as the cowards fled the field, he already hated this mission. He whistled to his horse which had wandered off.

"We should get to Tobrah before more of them return. If it is all right with you Sir Methodius, I'd like to stick together for the sake of strength in numbers."

Methodius looked at his men
they were all alive, but a couple were dazed from being knocked around by horses just as he was.

With a sigh of relief he turned to the dragon
"Agreed, if you are also here to deal with the horde i would extend the offer and say that we do it together, i doubt any one order could fight this horde by itself...that is if it does come to that."

Interrupting the Thane's conversation with the Gauntlet commander, Sigwald approached with a captive horsehumper. Distmounted, and with his full body behind the significantly smaller tribesman, Sigwald looked nothing like the slave he once was..as long as he kept on his faceplate helmet.

"Thane Alatin, this one could answer some questions."

The captive bit his tongue, literally, refusing to answer the thane of the Dragons. Though he was stubborn, he was still clearly shaking in fear. It was probable that the tribesman had never even seen heavy horsemen before, let alone fully armored knights.

William patted the captives head.

"We can conduct more thorough interrogations when we are less in the open, I do not feel comfortable here."

"we have no need for him, my order has connections in Torbah, if you promise to stand by the gauntlets when we are in need of help i shall share the information with you. If you do go with the promise, me and my men shall stand by your side if you encounter any of your enemies. it would become an alliance."

William smiled kindly.

"These are dark times, and we look for friends we can trust. Today you have earned our trust. From now on if you watch our backs, we will watch yours.

He extended his hand to seal the deal.

Now I don't mean to press but standing out in the open makes me uncomfortable.
