| It's interesting. I'd really like to know if their portrayal of Viking culture is accurate. Still waiting for a better look at their religion.
I guess we should check the qualifications of the research team.
But they shouldn't be talking in English...

| They start speaking in Norse with subtitles, but then switch to English. It's a fair way of doing it, as it shows they are not actually talking in English, but due to the audience need to understand, do.
Also I found an inaccuracy - they would not sail with shields on the sides of the ship, only when nearing land or battle. The shields are not nailed, only held in place by ropes, and so would all have fallen into the sea during the storm. Likewise I didn't see if they removed the dragon figurine when they neared land. Historically they should, as the dragon was really meant to scare away hostile sea spirits, but they would remove it when nearing land for fear of offending the spirits of the land.
Otherwise its still pretty good!

| I've been playing with my dream renown purchases for Seleucia...
I've come down to the question that ruins so many RPGs for me: A choice between two awesome themes!
Should her adventurers be Vanskerrys or Snake Cultists? >.>

| I think I have all the PMs now, so I will update the story thread soon. I think the spies are working well enough for the moment. We all know this is an ever-refining work in progress as a RP, so things may need to be changed as we progress. My individual opinion is that Adventurers should not be played with the same focus as PCs in normal events, if only for the work value it would create to have a dozen players controlling a half dozen individual characters at once. Edit: I would swear I posted this in the Fields of Pendor thread.... | |

| Mordred and Viking fans: I found info that a dude is translating a book about democracy in the Viking age. It should be very interesting. The author's name is Torgrim Titlestad and the book's English title will be something like "Norway in the Viking age". I think the original title is "Viking Norway".
At least for me it is a great prejudice breaker to know that Viking society was anti-authoritarism/centralization, and that ideas of absolutism and excessive executive power were new for them, probably imported from the still-to-be-invaded England, or from monotheistic Christians.

| Yes, very much so. Some scholars believe that the Vikings never truly had a "Dark Age" like much of Europe because the Church never had the monopoly on reading and writing that they had elsewhere. Even some semblance of this is visible today thanks to the enlightened women's rights prevalent in Scandinavia - again thanks to the Vikings (women could divorce at will, and owned property; denoted by their symbolic carrying of the house keys).
Iceland has the oldest continual democracy... again thanks to the Vikings.
Also interesting fact; the Allies during WW2 actually invaded a neutral country. Iceland was attacked by the British and Americans so as to stop the Germans invading it from Norway. There was one casualty, a marine shot himself in the foot.

| Oh to have an artist capable of doing that kind of stuff (or to have a dedicated artist at all!).
As to the game, yeah I have been following it. I was one of the first to sign up to their facebook page I seem to recall. Wasn't that interested in the multiplayer showcase thing they released, still waiting for the full game.

| Question: As this is really my first event in a forum rp, I was wondering on average how long do they usually go for? (Not a criticism in any way shape or form, I'm just curious ) | |

| Best/worst answer: It varies. Aftermath had mini-events that ran for a year, although they largely stopped progressing during that time. Then there was the Throne Room event that took about 6 weeks, I think. Granted that one was almost entirely just the PCs talking, with fairly limited GM intervention. It seems that we always underestimate how long an event will go on, though. And of course the specific actions the PCs have a large effect. Had the PCs had a candid discussion and agreed on slaughtering the rebels with brute strength, the event might be over now. I would expect another month or longer at this one, with the current pace of developments. Of course as we continue on we will have certain opportunities to expedite portions of it... say a large battle. If we do start to get bored of this one we can do a quick wrap-up based on where the Orders stand at that time. I included a background detail (no hints!) that would force the event to a more speedy conclusion just in case that occurred. | |

In any case, i'll take Isabel's guess of a month and raise it to two in my mind. Also, has anyone said anything about what PCs do in between events or is that up to the players? By that I mean take the initiative and set up rps themselves then ask a GM for their godly goodness if required.
