| Well, this thread was inevitable. Did any of you play the Dragonborn DLC? I played only about 5 hours before my game crashed and the saved game became corrupt (I play Iron Man, so that means that character is very much done now), but I have some opinions already, conveniently spoilerized: - Spoiler:
Think twice - Spoiler:
Make it thrice - Spoiler:
Really? - Spoiler:
I liked it. It's better than Dawnguard, but still very illogical. At one point an ash yam seller tells your that "growing food in the ashlands is difficult and requires patience and the right ingredients", and yet you find ash yams growing everywhere in Solstheim. It is said that the island was used as refuge for the Morrowindians after the eruption of the Red Mountain and the Argonian invasion, and yet we find no evidence of settlements round the island. Apparently Ald'Ruhm, Balmora, the East Coast etc were destroyed and the people migrated, but Solstheim is still underpopulated. It is commented repeatedly that Skall culture is dying and must the studied, but nothing is mentioned about the Ashlanders of Vvardenfell. So, many holes and inconsistencies.
They are clearly using the Morrowind feel to seduce players, but there's no real Morrowind there. Apart from brief quotations, easter eggs and very few similar items, there is no true revival. Perhaps it's the ash demons/whatever and tentacled monsters that ruin it, perhaps it's the feeling, just like in Skyrim, that the province is dead and ruined.
But some things are interesting. You do feel an outlander there. Everything is slightly weird and foreign. But that is only superficial. I haven't found daedric scripts yet, and the temple is very weak and doesn't scared me anymore. There is also no Hlaalu architecture.
And the Dunmer speak some sort of Australian or Irish English. So instead of having rasping voices, earned after breathing so much sand and ash, they speak with a clear and seducing Game of Thrones-y accent.
That said, the main quest seems interesting enough. So far it has been quite creative and has added a lot to the lore. I doubt that I will be able to destroy the world, even if lorewise my character could.

| Ehh i guess i need to dig up my Skyrim again, got bored way to quickly when started to play any other character besides first one. I don't want to read spoilers so i wonder how would you rate Dragonborn from 1 to 10 in terms of gameplay and story? | |

| I stopped after Dawnguard. The Hearthfire expansion just made me shake my head sadly. Building a house? Was that all it was? And children?
Is that game TES or The Sims?

| It may have something to do with those new strategies to win players. Heartfire clearly aims at a different public than Dawnguard and Dragonborn, for instance. These DLCs are not as much about improving lore as they are about adding replayability to Skyrim. Besides, vampires always sell.
I'd rate it 6. For me Dawnguard is 4, and Skyrim's main quest is 8.
Now we wait for Morrowind-like mods using Dragonborn's resources and play Skyrim until we get old. I guess this was Bethesda's purpose all along.

| Hearthfire was just to give console players a taste of what PC players have always done with TES games: Build your own house. Granted it was better in Morrowind when containers didn't respawn, so you could just pick any house, remove the occupants, and make it your own base. | |

| I never got into Morrowind. I started on oblivion and when I tried it I couldn't sink my teeth into it. Judging by how everyone talks about it I seem to have missed out. | |

Morrowind is a huge time eater. If you download the Tamriel Rebuilt mod it get even bigger. It's like reading through A Song of Ice and Fire. One must have time and be in the right state of mind to appreciate art of that kind.

| I've started playing Skyrim again so that I can further complain about the lore butchering. I'm still upset about losing my 50 hour Imperial save. >.<
I'm most distressed to hear about how 'rideable dragons' have turned out.
And I still hate TES Online. Really? Argonians and Dunmer in the same alliance? To quote the unfunny Jerry Seinfeld: Really? Really?

| I'd like to recommend the mod "Requiem". It was made by a guy who wanted more realism and lore-friendliness in Skyrim. He made a lot of effort to remove the console-based parts of the game. Everything was reworked, from perks to weapon damage and spells.
He also removed the numbers whenever possible, to improve immersion. Now, for example, "Rested" no longer says "10% experience bonus", but something like "you feel rested and have more focus to learn new things". Somethings may annoy some people, but the author wanted realism. So arrows are as dangerous as they were in the middle ages*, and everything is more expensive.
*. Changing the subject: I saw some youtube videos with 180lb English warbows, and I saw a guy measuring a 225lb one. I had no idea people could actually shoot those. A simple semi-professional medium sized bow has 25lb power, and my 40lb bow is already quite difficult to draw - and it also shoots through weak wooden doors. 180lb is already crossbow level. I might be wrong, but I think a 180lb could pierce a shield and a knight's armor.
Now I now why the Noldor are scary.

| I think it was from Wales actually. And the only reason they could shoot them was the insane amounts of practice that went into it. I'm sure you've probably heard of how malformed some of the skeletons from that time period from England are. Odd bone densities/growths from the insanely powerful muscles that they got from training to use those things. I'd hate to arm wrestle a Welsh Warbowsman. Speaking of which, does that mean that the Ravenstern Rangers who use Warbows also have that problem? Makes the decision to swap to guns and crossbows a no brainer really. Give a guy 3 hours of practice, a weapon and some ammunition and then off to the battlefield with you while we train your replacement. | |

| You all suck. TES goes here.
I would love to see what occurs in Akavir with Tosh Raka achieving the transformation into a dragon. A war with the Tsaesci would be grand as the immortal vampire snakemen decide to eat the new tiger-dragon. The monkey people should war with the snow demons while the other two fight. I'd love it.
Especially if the Nerevarine and/or Vivec happened to be included. (Preferably the latter!)

| Dragonborn was far too short in its MQ. And a little more depth or interaction with Miraak would have been nice. (And the option to continue his plan!)
At least he has a smecksai Cthulu mask that I get to wear now!

| Is the Sheogorath in Skyrim my character from Oblivion?
Because my Dunmer Spellsword got real pasty and grey haired. And Scottish. Real Scottish. Or is it Irish? Bugger me if I know.

| That Sheogorath likely was your character once. After being the Mad God for a while he decided to make himself look like a banker again... and couldn't recall why he'd ever been tried to look like a Dunmer Spellsword in the first place. Oh well, he'll just go eat a clown with a nice glass of frogs. | |

| That's neat.
On a side note: I want his clothes but am afraid to attack him. I remember what happened in Oblivion when I attacked Then-Sheogorath. I got teleported a mile above the ground and faceplanted into a pile of corpses on spikes.

| If you're on PC it's fairly easy to acquire them. (Or at least it should be.)
You can either try to find a list of codes for items online, or load up the Creation Kit. I was going to make my own Dragon Priest outfit, but Dragonborn is bugged... actually it isn't a bug. Bethesda apparently doesn't update their scripts for the Creation Kit, so without manually changing things the DLC additions cannot be played with in the creation kit. >.<
Anyway, then just use the console command to add those items.

| Still on the topic of Skyrim, have you seen this mod? It not only makes you laught untill your belly hurts, but the modder appears to be a genius, considering how outside the box he can think. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/32597/EDIT: "Uncle Sheo" is now incorporated in my vocabulary. As is "aunt Azzy". | |
